Under Armour Sustainability Practices

Under Armour is a world-renowned brand famous for innovative athletic gear and activewear that set industry standards. Repped by all-star athletes and high school teams alike, Under Armour was founded to empower athletes at every level, pushing them to achieve greatness. Beyond athletics, Under Armour apparel and gifts equip business professionals to succeed every day—branded Under Armour polos are some of the most sought-after corporate polo shirts on the market. But the brand is empowering professionals through more than just its quality apparel.

Beyond your athletic and professional endeavors, Under Armour wants to support your sustainability practices. The brand’s goal is to create high-performance products while reducing the negative impacts of manufacturing and product waste. Below, we’ll take a look at Under Armour’s eco-friendly values and efforts!

What Does Under Armour Do for Sustainability?

Under Armour is committed to creating eco-friendly processes that preserve the health and longevity of our planet. As an apparel and goods company, the brand’s efforts will be focused on minimizing the harmful environmental impacts brought on by the fashion industry, increasing the efficiency of its manufacturing and shipping processes, limiting greenhouse emissions, and reducing garment waste.

What Are Under Armour’s Sustainability Goals?

Under Armour has set a large number of high-reaching sustainability goals that span the next several years. These include:

  • Reaching net zero emissions by 2050
  • Repairing and recycling 75% of damaged products by 2025
  • Reducing single-use plastics in packaging by 75% by 2030
  • Moving to 100% renewable electricity in all facilities by 2030

Is Under Armour Carbon Neutral?

As of 2024, Under Armour is not yet a carbon-neutral company, but the brand has goals to reach net zero emissions by the year 2050. To do this, Under Armour will take steps to reduce emissions while funding and completing projects that remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

Is Under Armour Clothing Recycled?

As a brand, Under Armour is committed to using recycled materials in its products. The company has used 25 million yards of recycled textiles and materials as of 2021. In the future, Under Armour plans to replace all polyester with recycled polyester, use 50% recycled materials for the uppers of its footwear, recycle/repair 75% of damaged products, and more.

Life Cycle of Under Armour Products

As Under Armour continues pushing the design of its products forward, the brand seeks to innovate the life cycle of those products. The life cycle of a product refers to its entire life span from manufacturing to purchase to after its use. Under Armour’s goal moving forward is to create a circular system by 2030. This means its products would be designed to transition back into recycled or reusable material after they’ve been used, and the manufacturing process would begin again!

Creating a circular life cycle for products reduces the amount of waste created. By reusing old apparel, shoes, and backpacks, Under Armour will keep loads of material from ever reaching the landfill. Additionally, by focusing on the chemistry of its products and reducing the amount of biocides, fluorine DWR, and solvents used in footwear and apparel, Under Armour is minimizing the impact of materials that aren’t recycled.

Under Armour values transparency. Each year, the brand publishes documents detailing its social and environmental impact, holding the company accountable to customers and stakeholders. These reports give specific statistics including the amounts of recycled materials used, the gender and racial makeup of its team by percentage, and its revenue breakdown. For any brand, accountability is key for growth and progress.
